ALTRISET Calteryx ... A Unique Innovative Termiticide |
Mimicking these natural substances is an important innovation in termite control. As a result Altriset has a very low impact on the environment, including mammals, birds, bees, fish and other animals. Unique Safety Profile: Altriset is the first and only soil treatment termiticide to be classified by EPA in USA as a Reduced-Risk Pesticide; and by APVMA in Australia as an unscheduled poison. It is deemed safe enough to have no requirement to note WARNING or CAUTION on the pesticide label. NO specific FIRST AID required as on other termiticide labels. Even if the product is splashed in someone's eyes the EPA and APVMA do not require or recommend any first aid procedures. No mandatory need to rinse eyes, rinse skin or call a poison control centre. No protective equipment gloves or eyewear need be worn by the pesticide applicator who may work with this product on a daily basis. Active constituent: Calteryx [scientific name chlorantraniliprole] readily binds to the receptors in the termite's muscle tissues and depletes calcium therein needed for muscle contraction. With sufficient dosage - the resulting paralysis leads to the death of the termite - see illustration below: |
Syngenta claims the mouths of exposed termites become paralyzed and so stop feeding. There is increased grooming and interaction with other termites within days, spreading even more Altriset onto other members of the colony. The affected termites walk back to their nest and transfer Altriset onto other termites. Over time, affected termites become more lethargic, are paralyzed and then die. Altriset eliminates termites from structures in less than 3 months when used in accordance with the Pesticide Label. A single Altriset application can provide subterranean termite protection "for 5 years" applied in accordance with Pesticide Label. Syngenta claims field testing of Altriset in Australia of more than one year show 100% effectiveness of an Altriset soil treated barrier against termites. The longevity test sites are ongoing. |

ALTRISET Application - Soil Treatment Barrier |
Altriset is applied to the soil abutting the perimeter of a building in order to protect the building from subterranean termite infestation.
Termites that are present in the timbers of the building must return to their colony nest. When they come into contact with Altriset treated soil they walk through it, ingest it and carry it on their bodies. They cannot taste or smell it. Within a few hours, the mouths of exposed termites become paralyzed and stop further feeding. With sufficient dosage they become paralyzed and die. Termites that tunnel through the Altriset treated soil can quickly acquire a lethal dose of Altriset. These termites will continue to crawl, groom, and clean for extended periods after exposure. |

ALTRISET vs TERMIDOR |
How does Altriset (Syngenta) compare with Termidor (BASF)? the existing leading product in Australia since 202. REMEMBER all termiticides used as a soil treatment will degrade over time due to environmental factors and effect of micro bacterial processes in the soil.
According to Syngenta USA laboratory and fieldwork studies (1) almost 60% of the Altriset chemical remains active even after 5 years in a pre-construction new home situation whereas 10% of Termidor remains active after the same amount of time (2) after 1 year in a post-construction existing home situation more than 80% of the Altriset chemical remains active compared with 70% for Termidor. Both are leading termite control products that exhibit a transfer effect, in that the affected termites do not die immediately upon contact with the termiticide. Termidor is proven by more than 10 years of use in Australia to be a highly effective termite control product. Altriset has a safer profile as the only termiticide for soil barrier application that is classified by the EPA (USA) as a Reduced-Risk Pesticide and by Australian APVMA as an unscheduled poison - a creditable strong endorsement by these Authorities as to the safety of the product to people and pets. Termidor carries a CAUTION on the pesticide label in Australia and USA and is highly active against a variety of non-target animals such as bees and fish. Altriset has a lower toxicity profile towards children and pets - it is not debilitating to bees, fish and earthworms. |

DONT RISK IT ... Leave it to the Professionals |
Remember effective termite control and installation of complete soil treatment barrier depends heavily upon the skill and experience of the termite controller.
Professional termite controllers are familar with local building construction types - posess and use of specialized equipment, such as concrete drills - bulk spray tanks, pumps and termiticide applicating and injection equipment. WARNING Altriset is more expensive than most of the alternatives, so BEWARE of "dodgy" companies that under cut the required application rate in order to cut costs, which will lower the level of protection required. |
